You’re a year late to the party, guys. I totally would have bought this when I was looking for an ultraportable last year. I have a macbook air instead.

Yeah, because there weren’t any ubuntu or windows ultrabooks available when I was looking.

I don’t want to fight with it, so I’ll keep OSX around for now. Once it’s not supported anymore, I will probably put Ubuntu on it or another Linux distro.

I, if I get this job, am going to get a Mac Book Pro, does that not make me a Linux user anymore? :O

Not at all. I run Linux and Windows 7 on my main machine (which is my desktop) but I think the Mac gives me a better portable laptop experience than windows or ubuntu does (sad to say, actually). I get great range on the wireless card and I have the power of *nix with a halfway decent interface on top.

Yes, it matters! I actually run Windows on one laptop and Funtoo on my ultrabook. I will probably eventually put Linux on the MacBook but I figured, if I have the money why not. Lol, they make good looking computers and they have some nice hardware. I’m not particularly a fan of OSX, personally, but I can always ssh into one of my servers for the Linux experience xD

You’ll like the macbook. The hardware is top-notch. Just go into it knowing what you’re getting, and get the amount of RAM you think you’ll need. On the new Macbook pros it’s soldered to the mobo, just like it is on the Air.

So, just go in knowing what you want and need, and come out with a bangin’ laptop. I love my Air because it’s exactly what I wanted and needed at the time: an ultraportable laptop that still has decent power (i5 processor with the HD intel graphics) and awesome battery life. I get about 5 to 5 and a half hours of battery. This is after a year. If I shut off wifi and bluetooth (which is off anyway) and a whole host of things, I can use it for probably 7 hours but that’s just for non-internet things like writing.

Good luck with the job. I hope you get it!

My first Linux machine was a 4 year old MacBookPro “17. Apple wan’t really upgrading the OS for my hardware anymore so I moved to Ubuntu at the time. It worked well for 3 years and finally died. So using a mac to run linux is okay… for awhile.
